REFLECTIONS

I have learned a lot of new things through the “ICT in Biology” course. This course is about how to use the technology in teaching and learning process specifically in Biology and Science subject. For the first time, I have been introduced by the lecturer how to use the Interactive Whiteboard (IWB). An interactive whiteboard is a large interactive display that connects to a computer and projector. A projector projects the computer's desktop onto the board's surface, where users no need to control at the computer. I can control my presentation on the board using a pen, finger or other device.

Besides that, I also learned about data logging, simulation and modelling. The instruments of data logging are data logger and sensors. The data logger is used to read and save the information from the sensor. There are many types of sensors such as Dissolve Oxygen sensor, Temperature sensor, Pressure sensor, and others. The data logging can be used in the experiment. Not all the experiment can be done through the data logging, but only certain appropriate experiment can be done. Through data logging, we can get accurate results, saving time, experiment can be repeated or stopped at any time, and many others advantages.

The uses of IWB, simulation and modelling in teaching and learning process are another alternative way to attract and encourage student’s interest in studying science subject. Science subject is one of the subjects that difficult to understand because it’s learning about plant and animal and the process that occurs in plant and animal. So, when the teaching and learning process use the Interactive Whiteboard, teacher or lecturer can show the process in 2D animation and how the process of certain organelles or cells occur. Comparing to the explanations from the teachers and just drawing on the whiteboard, the uses of IWB help students to understand more about the topic. The students can have correct imagination about the process occurs in plant or animal.

Become an educator is not just to teach the students in the class but, we should educate students intellectually, physically, mentally, and emotionally. We should understand our students and try to build good relationship with them. So that, when they are facing any problems, easily they will tell us. They will feel comfortable with us. In the class, we should become noticing about our students. Whether they are ready to learn the subject or not, they are in a good health or not, and others. So that, the teaching and learning process runs smoothly. I will try to improve myself to become a great educator to the next generations. Perhaps, through this education portfolio, I will get benefits from others advice or suggestion.
